AIKEN, SC - One of the greatest polo players in the world, Adolfo Cambiaso, demonstrated his talent on Sunday, October 1, 2006 in the Triple Crown of Polo's encore event at the New Bridge Polo Club in Aiken, SC. The ESPN cameras rolled as Cambiaso scored the winning goal in overtime to help his New Bridge La Dolfina teammates Matias Magrini, Gonzalo Del Rio and team sponsor Russ McCall win the USPA Gold Cup. New Bridge La Dolfina's defeat of the Goose Creek team 14-13 came in front of the New Bridge Polo Club's largest crowd in its seven year history.
"The game was part heartbreaker and part thrill," said Adam Snow of the Goose Creek team. "It was a thrill to come back and a heartbreaker to lose in overtime. I'm proud of our team's heart and spirit. We were down 9-4 at halftime, and we said let's go for it. It was a good tournament for our team. It made for great television."
ESPN's worldwide network will show the event as an encore to the Triple Crown of Polo's 2006 season. The event will air Sunday, October 22, 2006 at 1:00 PM Eastern/10:00 AM Pacific on ESPN 2.
"This is great! An overtime victory always makes it special," Cambiaso said.
"I enjoy playing in this prestigious tournament and I will be back next year to play in Aiken for the Triple Crown of Polo event," he added before jumping into a waiting helicopter to be whisked to Argentina for a game Monday morning for the Tortugas Open.
