Duende (pronounced do-end-ay) means "in the zone" and that is exactly what they were in for the month of August during the third leg of the Triple Crown of Polo Championship Series held in Santa Barbara, California with the Pacific Coast Open tournament. Duende was the only team never to lose a game in the tournament, making them the undefeated champions when they defeated Grant's Farm/Windsor Capital by a score of 11 to 10 on Sunday August 28th, 2005.
The championship game witnessed Duende's Augustin Merlos leading the way with eight goals. Teammate Paco deNarvaez added three goals. Following the victory Duende patron, Mike Hakan celebrated with teammates Augustin, Paco and William Henry Walker. "We knew today's game was going to be possibly the most difficult to win. We respected Pat Nesbitt's and Andy Busch team and knew the key was to get out ahead early," said Hakan.

Grant's Farm/Windsor Capital's team was led by Jeff Blake with eight goals.

The Professional MVP Award went to Augustin Merlos and the Best Playing Pony was awarded to Augustin's horse, Kenia.
