Triple Crown of Polo Championship Series Announces Dates for Aiken 2008
Most widely-televised polo tournament to take place at New Bridge September 17 – October 5
Aiken, SC - David McLane, president of the Triple Crown of Polo Championship Series announced dates for Aiken's event in 2008 at yesterday's feature game.
"We are delighted with the response and support we have had for the inaugural year in Aiken," said McLane. "The City of Aiken and Aiken County have embraced the arrival of the Triple Crown of Polo Championship Series. We have also been welcomed by the community and we look forward to returning next year and continuing to build the event in Aiken for years to come."
McLane announced that the tournament will once again kick off with a Launch Party, scheduled for September 17, 2008 and conclude with finals on Sunday October 5 to be televised by ESPN 2 and ESPN International through their network of 196 countries in 12 different languages. New Bridge Polo and Country Club will be hosting the tournament again, with three feature games – including the finals - played on the picturesque number one field.
"We have moved the dates slightly to coincide with the Aiken Polo Pony Sale scheduled for October 4, 2008 and will be working with Charlie Herrick, owner of Banks Mill Feed and organizer of the Sale to cross-promote both events," said McLane. "We believe that both events merit an international audience and hope we can bring more people to Aiken specifically to attend both the Aiken Polo Pony Sale and third leg of the Triple Crown of Polo Championship Series."
Next year's high goal tournament for the Triple Crown of Polo will be played at the 20-goal level and is expected to grown the audience for polo in Aiken, America's unofficial capital of the sport.
"There is no better place than Aiken to hold this event," said McLane. "The fields are first class and the players and teams love to play here. With the incredible support of the community and our sponsors this year – Lexus, Tiffany & Co, the Carolina Real Estate Company, UPS, Agsouth Farm Credit, Atlantic Broadband, the Aiken Standard, Boots Bridles and Britches and Via Mizner – a Lilly Pulitzer Via Shop, we feel that the Triple Crown of Polo has found a wonderful new home."
