Triple Crown of Polo Puts Sarasota on World Stage
ESPN to film finals of sport's most prestigious tournament series at Sarasota Polo Club, Sunday, March 25th
Sarasota, FL - The Sarasota Polo Club will be featured in front of a worldwide television
audience as the opening leg of the 2007 Triple Crown of Polo (TCP) championship series
when it returns to the Sarasota Polo Club Sunday, March 25. The TCP presentation
features the Robert A. Uihlein Jr. Memorial and will again be taped for television by
ESPN for distribution on the ESPN 2 and ESPN International networks, reaching more
than 196 countries in twelve different languages.
Entering its third season, the TCP is the first multi-market tournament in the sport's
history, providing a worldwide stage for greater Sarasota to showcase the area and its
wonderful polo. TCP is a unique tournament that, through television, takes its audience
inside the personal lifestyle of the players, participants and owners. The broadcast
reaches the active and affluent audience with whom polo resonates. The TCP series takes
place in Sarasota, Santa Barbara, California and concludes with the third leg in Aiken,
South Carolina in September. Founding sponsors for the TCP are Tiffany & Co. and
Lexus.
Eight teams will compete for the Triple Crown of Polo at the Sarasota Polo Club with
polo players from Argentina, Columbia, South Africa, Hawaii, Texas and more. In the
week leading up to Sunday's game, they will eliminate all but two of the teams who will
face each other on the field Sunday afternoon. Several players are coming to Sarasota
specifically for the chance to put their name on the coveted Triple Crown of Polo trophy,
a solid silver work of art, handmade by Tiffany & Co. and called "the most magnificent
trophy in all of sport," by famous artist LeRoy Neiman.
"We are delighted to host the Triple Crown of Polo again this year," said Sarasota Polo
Club manager, Maggie Mitchell. "Last year we drew a record crowd for the event and
we hope that the support for this world-renowned polo tournament will continue to
grow."
